The human race has a pack instinct, like wolves. There is a drive towards sociability, coupled with an irrational fear of 'otherness' that makes people want to imitate each other in order to feel safe within a social group. Another explanation is that copying other people is an ingrained habit from infanthood. A small baby will copy the adults in order to learn speech, how to eat, be toilet trained, and later will learn from them how to set up a bank account and cook spaghetti bolognaise. So not all imitation is negative. However mindless clone-like behaviour is a bit silly and should be ignored. I wouldn't worry about it though.

How about doing all the good you can even if it brings great harm to others and deprives others of their opportunity to grow and learn and even do good themselves?

If someone does good they are not depriving others of good or opportunities to grow and learn. You have proposed a paradoxical situation. If you are doing great harm to others, then by definition you are not doing all the good you can. Doing good does not harm people, it helps people. That's what we mean by doing good. If you are harming people, that is what we call evil, not good.
