Many people need a belief in a higher power for many reasons.
- It makes life much easier to deal with, knowing that someone else is in control.
- It takes away responsibility from one's actions; bad actions can be forgiven.
- Governments and churches use religion to keep people under control.
There are others.

∙ 12y agoPeople believe in different gods for different reasons, and being an atheist myself, I'm not 100% sure of the answer (no offence to religious people!). Many people are a particular religion because their family are. Other people believe in God because simply, they think he is real. Sorry, I'm probably not the best person to answer that, but I hope it helped!
