Men may show off in front of others to boost their confidence, gain admiration or attention, or assert their dominance. This behavior can stem from social and cultural factors that promote competition and the need to prove oneself.

Also, they try to defend what they say, and some people are insecure about themselves so they make things up to feel better about themselves.
