The same reason people hate Christians and Jews etc. Living in a world with different belief systems will always breed hate. Everyone should be viewed as a human and should get respect as a human. We are commanded to love, not hate, our neighbors.

Not all people hate atheists, most probably don't care one way or another. About a third of the world's population is atheist, agnostic or a religion that does not have such a concept.
People that do hate because of another's belief are usually unconvinced of the correctness of their own belief and see any person presenting a strong contrary position as being a threat.

∙ 10y agoThats a very good question. many people seem to hate Atheists because an atheist is a threat to "faith". Faith is a belief in a claim without, or in spite of evedence. Atheists are striving for a life of evedence, knowledge, and truth with no "faith" claims. This tends to upset those who live by "faith" and god claims alone.
