Simply because they are in a public eye. Every profession has bad apples. However, in politics almost all media coverage always focuses on the worst of them. The guy in your city hall fighting honestly to save a park or the lady at the school board working to improve education get no coverage. Since all people hear about politicians is scandals, people associate that with the profession (not different from other forms of stereotyping). It's true, Washington, DC has gotten really disfunctional. Most politicians, however, are at the local level. Those are the ones you almost never hear about. In fact, people only ever year about 20 or so politicians out of more than 10,000 in the US.

∙ 12y agoMany politicians are corrupt and and take advantage of ordinary people who pay their bills because the ordinary people are the tax payers and a politician's job is to make reforms and ways of easier living not harder.
