Not all people do. There are lots of people out there that would rather prefer fruit, and vice versa. It just depends on the individual!
Outside of the traditional flavors, which never go out of style, there are flavors that are becoming more popular or trendy. They include fruity flavors like passion fruit, mango, pineapple and marionberry and other more unusual flavors like pistachio and coconut. Even more trendy is using variations of the traditional vanilla, chocolate, berry, butter and lemon cakes and using a variety of fruity fillings. Carrot cakes are also trendy. Popular this year are lemon, lime, and orange flavoured wedding cakes as well as chocolate, almond and fresh fruit in season.

Apple cake was simply part of the range of Roman desserts. The most common dessert was actually a bowlful of fruit. Ancient cakes were not like today's cakes. They more like enriched bread. A proper distinction between bread and cakes developed during the Middle Ages. Ancient cakes were basic bread doughs enriched with butter, eggs and honey (sugar was not used back then and honey was the sweetener). The range of added ingredients was limited: ground hazelnuts or almonds, dried apricots or cooked apples.
Hi, From memory it was the equivelent of todays 500g bags of mixed fruit. In cakes and stuff you can go a bit either way, in fact I often buy more and then look at the mix adding a little more at a time.
