Alchemy has two goals. The first is to change base metals such as lead into gold. The second is creating the philosopher's stone or elixer of life which according to legend has various abilities including immortality, instantly curing any disease or ailment, automatic transformation of base metals into gold, ultimate knowledge, or completion of the great work.
