Because non-scientists do not understand what a scientific theory actually means. It is not a random guess. Scientific theories are formed based on evidence and experimentation.

The scientific community advocates evolution because all the evidence of life on our planet supports the theory.

Why Darwin's theory of evolution a theory in crisis?

The theory of evolution has passed on and is no longer just Darwin's theory and the only crisis in this theory is in the heads of delusional creationists.

Why did Charles Darwin want to know about evolution?

he just studied birds and turtles... evolution was his theory

What are some of the topics that the theory of evolution has trouble explaining?

Evolution is not a theory it is a fact. Recognised as such by most sensible people and many religions. There are several theories of how and why evolution proceeds "oh ok... im just doing a science assignment on evolution and that's one of the questions we have to cover, although i do go to a christian school"

What is your theory on evolution?

I accept the modern theory of evolution by natural selection. You can not just on a whim put forth a scientific theory. I suggest you access a good dictionary. The scientific meaning of " theory " is generally the primary meaning.

Did everyone believe in what Charles Darwin believed?

Not at all. There are many people today that disbelieve any theory of evolution, not just Darwins.

What does it mean when it states that evolution is just a theory?

Evolution is a fact. The theory of evolution by natural selection is what you are trying to talk about. When someone says " evolution is just a theory " they are using the vulgar, common sense of the word theory. They mean guess, hunch and the like. The theory of evolution by natural selection is in the scientific sense of the word theory, which means a body of explanatory work supported by myriad lines of converging evidence that has been tested rigouusly and replicated often. Any good dictionary uses this scientific meaning of theory as the primary meaning of the word.

Is evolution a law or theory or a hypothesis?

Answer 1A theory. Just as E=Mc2 is the theory of relativity.Answer 2Evolution is both a fact and a theory, although the fact and the theory of evolution are - at least in my book - two different things:The fact of evolution is the observation that lifeforms evolve over time. The theory of evolution is the model that explains how they evolve, and how that applies to our findings in genetics and palaeontology. The theory of evolution incorporates a number of well-tested hypotheses, laws, and facts.

What do you think of evolution?

Everyone has a different point of view about evolution, because it is just a theory after all.But there might be some speculation by very spiritual people about this subject. This is an opinionated question though; it is up to youto believe or not believe in evolution.

Is evolution merely a theory?

"Theory" means something much different in the world of science than it does in everyday use. Evolution is an observed fact. The theory around it is just our current understanding of the specific mechanics of it.

What are the three theories of evolution?

The three main theories of evolution are Lamarckism, Darwinism, and punctuated equilibrium. Lamarckism suggests that organisms can pass on acquired traits to their offspring, while Darwinism proposes natural selection as the main mechanism of evolution. Punctuated equilibrium suggests that evolution occurs in rapid bursts separated by long periods of stability.

How is evolution related to other branch of science?

First of all, evolution is not a science. One of the first rules of science is observation, and no one has observed evolution. We have observed gene mutation, yes. Breeding almost any animal will show you variation and mutation. I suppose, to answer your question, evolution is a theory derivative of genetics and biology. But, evolution is a theory, it has no confirmation. It is just a theory.

Why do people believe in the theory of evolution?

Answer 1Because they accept the myriad of evidence that underlines the Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection.Answer 2Because they relied on evidences, observations, experiments. These are the basic premises of sciences. For an idea to be called a 'theory' in science required more evidences and tests, etc. A theory in science means more than what most lay people realize. A hypothesis in science is closer to what lay people think of as a 'theory' in daily usage. So when you hear the Theory of Evolution, there is substantial evidence behind it, just like there is for the Theory of Relativity or Theory of Gravitation. On the other hand, just because something has lots of evidence behind it does not mean it's correct. However, it takes a lot of counter-evidence to overturn a theory. Remember, it took a long time and substantial evidence to change the theory that the earth was not the center of the universe.
