Smokers are often more stressed because crazings making you NEED a fag and if you are unable to have one you get annoyed.
Being a non-smoker is less stressful. You deal with your stress by solving the problem instead of running off to smoke.

Older people on the other hand smoke to feel relaxed or to give them energy while going through a hard time or while having some problems-either personal or economic-related. There are also others who just love to smoke for smoking gives them pleasure and it just makes them feel good.
