Demand = do many people want it?
Supply = is there enough of the commodity to go around?
Van Gogh made about 850 paintings. Most people love them and would like to have one. But the paintings are in museums (= not for sale) or with private collectors (= not for sale). So whenever ONE painting is up for sale at an auction, every collector in the world wants it, and they have to pay a lot to outbid each other.
So it has nothing to do with the cost of production.
Leonardo made about 30 paintings, and 22 of them are left today. So IF one of those were for sale it would be EXPENSIVE!!!
