Why do people who are addicted to drugs forget everything else going on in their lives?

People with serious drug addictions become obsessed with every aspect of their drug experience. When they are not high they spend their time thinking of how to get it again. If they are low on money then they begin thinking of ways to get money to get the drugs. Every aspect of their addiction slowly takes over their entire lives. Because they are so preoccupied with their drug experience they tend to focus on that to the exclusion of everything else. Of course this doesn't happen overnight and each person is different. Generally speaking however, drug addiction ruins peoples lives and often they are so caught up in getting and using the drug everything else that was important before takes a back seat to the drug. This is why treatment and sometimes intervention are so important. Once addicted it is extremely difficult to get off drugs. It's simple... think about a time that you had a bleeding wound or a pain... You can think about other things but all you can feel is the pain and you feel that pain all the time and because it is more real and tangible than the spiritual emotional parts or your existence, it becomes all you can think about. It's easy for outsiders to judge people who are addicted to drugs, but everybody is addicted to sin, and if you have difficulty foreseeing your life without sin... then so comes the same thing when it comes to quitting drugs...
