This is mainly so students don't wear offensive or revealing clothes. It is also so every student appears equally wealthy. It all depends on the school's policy.
Most public schools in the US do not require uniforms. Reasons for wearing uniforms include the fact that a student's clothing will not indicate his or her socioeconomic group, so there will be less racist behavior, and it gives a sense of identity to the students, that they are part of a group in a positive way. Also, parents do not have to spend as much money on clothing, because student's will wear their regular clothing only after school and weekends, so the clothing won't wear out as quickly, and they won't need as many clothes. It also can have a positive effect on behavior and discipline because students will not be wearing clothing that could be considered as inappropriate or disruptive.

Yes. or provide them
There are no US states in which students are legally required to wear uniforms, although individual schools or school districts may require uniforms.
Yes, some American schools have uniforms
because they are scum H.Q and they think they are more superior than us so they think they have more rights than us
Actually, not all students in Britain wear uniforms. It's just like here in the USA, some schools have uniforms, but most don't. You would think British schoolchildren wear uniforms because of what you see in movies or tv shows. But really, British schools have about the same unifrom ratio as to American schools. Actually this is not true, speaking as a 17 year old English school-girl, I can assure you that it is not the same as American schools. In the United Kingdom 92% of state and private/boarding schools have strict uniform policy wheras 18% of US schools do. Usually the ones in the UK that don't are special-needs schools.
Yes, they do. however, public schools' rules are more flexible now as its been decided a couple of years ago to allow the children to wear jeans and t-shirts and the girls to wear trousers or jeans too. Uniforms in private schools are still the same and not so flexible.
