Assuming you mean half the number of chromosomes in an average cell, they have half the number because they combine with their opposite (sperm or egg) to create a "complete" cell, which then becomes a living organism.

Sex cells contain half of the chromosomes because two individuals' sex cells join to form a zygote during fertilization, which contains a full set of chromosomes.

Because when reproductive cells come together, then there are 46. Just like all the other cells.

Because the sperm cell (1/2 of chromosomes) + egg cell (1/2 of chromosomes) together form a child (1/2 + 1/2 = 1 --> all chromosomes)

How many chromosomes do human egg cells and sperm cells have?

There are 23 chromosomes in a human sperm or egg (ovum).Of these, 22 are autosomes, and there is one sex chromosome: either an X or a Y. So 23 is the human haploid number.

How many chromosomes are present in human sex cells?

The human sex cell or human gamete has half the number of cells that any other normal human cell would have. A normal human cell (the one from your skin, mouth, lung, liver, sex organs, etc.) has 23 pairs of chromosomes and as such are called diploid cells. The sex cells are haploid having only 23 number of chromosomes as they unite with another haploid cell to create a normal cell with complete set of 23 pairs of chromosomes. The 23rd chromosome on a male human gamete is either the X or the Y chromosome while on the female gamete it is always the X chromosome.

How do the number of chromosomes compare in gametes and somatic cells?

I will assume that you mean human cells. Somatic cells are diploid (2n), containing two sets of chromosomes, one of paternal, one of maternal origin. Gametes, on the other hand, are haploid (n), with a single set of chromosomes, ie. half as many as the somatic cell. Now, the haploid chromosome number (n) is characteristic of the species, and in humans this number happens to be 23. Therefore a human gamete has 23 chromosomes, and a human somatic cell 23 pairs, or 46 chromosomes.

How many chromosome are found in sex cell?

The number of chromosomes found in a sex gell depends on the organism discussed. The number of chromosomes in a sex cell is half the number found in the body cells. Human body cells have 46 chromosomes, their sex cells have 23.

How does sex cells differ from ordinary cells?

Sex cells, called gametes, are different to other cells in that they contain half the number of chromosomes. So in a human sex cell, there are 23 chromosomes, whereas a normal human cell has 46 chromosomes.

If the number of chromosomes in the skin cells of an organism is 28 what is the number of chromosomes in the organisms egg cells?

Gametes have half the number of chromosomes that most cells in the organism have. Most human cells have 46 chromosomes, but eggs and sperm have 23 chromosomes each.

How many chromosomes are in their sex cells?

Sex cells have half the number of chromosomes as the original cell, and are said to be haploid. In human sex cells there are 23 chromosomes.

How number of chromosomes in a cells compare to the number in its sex cells?

The human cell has 46 chromosomes. In the sex cell of a human it has one half that many. So 23 chromosomes from each parent. Different species have different number of chromosomes. This is why you do not have mixes such as a centaur.

What is the number of chromosomes in daughter cells in humans meiosis?

The number of chromosomes in daughter cells in human meiosis is 23. During meiosis, the number of chromosomes in the parent cells (sperm and egg cells) is halved to produce haploid daughter cells, which contain half the number of chromosomes as the parent cells.

How many chromosomes does a liver cell have?

All human cells , with the exception of sperm and egg cells, have the same number of chromosomes (46). Sperm and Egg cells have half that number.

How is the haploid chromosome number?

The haploid chromosome number is half the chromosome number of the body cells. For example, in humans, body cells have 46 chromosomes. In human haploid cells (sex cells), there are 23 chromosomes.

How many chromosomes in human gametes?

23, there are 23 chromosomes in human gametes

How are diploid and haploid cells different from each other?

Haploid (prefix ha- half) Diploid (prefix di- two) Haploid cells have 23 chromosomes. Diploid cells have 46 chromosomes. Haploid cells contain HALF the number of chromosomes whereas a Diploid has 2x the chromosomes a haploid cell has. 23 -- Haploid x 2 ---- 46 -- Diploid
