they climb up the walls because of their slime. their slime is what keeps them from falling off of objects. and doctors use slime sometimes to numb something or they turn the slime in to numbing lotion.

Not sure but I do think they eat the dead. As in; whenever I step on one,and leave it there-- within an hour of so---where there wasn't another one-- there might be one right on top of this carcass. Another point of snail curiosity-- I wonder why they climb up the building to die.

Because they could not get under your door... and the windows might be a way to get in? I cannot explain why they always come up to the door and try to SNAIL-IN but there must be some smart zoologist who may know why!

The snails could be looking for food. Try adding aquatic plants for them to eat. If there are aggressive fish in the tank, they could be trying to escape impending doom.

Are garden snails and pond snails the same?

While both types of snails are mollusks, gastropods, to be more specific, the land snails have developed lungs to be able to breathe on land. Aquatic snails have gills, special organs that remove oxygen from the water. For this reason, land snails will drown if left in a bucket of water that they cannot escape from. Aquatic snails do not have the thick slime that land snails have and will quickly dry out,( if they do not suffocate first) when left out of the water.
