How do i solve this problem A stud farm has 24 horses 14 of black 23 of the remainder of brown in the restaurant evenly divided between gray and white how many horses are white?

There are 24 to start with and 1/4 are black. 24/4=6, so there's 6 black horses. 24-6 gives us 18 horses who are not black. 1/3 of those are brown. 18/3=6 brown horses. 18-6 = 12. Evenly divided means that half are white and half are grey, so 12/2=6. 6 are white, six are grey. So in the end this was just a really complicated way of saying that 1/4 are each color. There're 6 black horses, 6 brown horses, 6 white horses, and 6 grey horses.

Can a race horse be white?

Technically, there is no such thing as a true white horse. All "white horses" are variations of grey. There is a white grey because it is a variation of grey. So yes, there are such things as "white" grey racehorses. They aren't very common, though.

What colour foal will you get from a gray and chestnut?

It depends on what genes the foal gets. You didn't mention what color the horse was before it turned grey, so that makes this difficult to answer. Grey isn't a color gene all its own, its a color modifying gene. Grey horses start out a normal color, and then their coat grows lighter as they mature. If the grey horse is dominant for grey, the foal will most likely be born a color and change to grey as he ages. If the grey horse is not homozygous for grey, then the foal has a 50-50 chance of being grey.

Why is a bay such a popular colour on horses?

You see so many bay horses because the bay color gene is dominant. In most cases it can over-ride black and it varieties and even grey and its varieties. When breeding a chestnut with a bay it's about 50-50 whether you will get chestnut or bay.

Can two grey horses produce a bay?

It is VERY possible two greys will NOT produce a grey foal if there is ANY evidance of any other colour in the past 2 generations, so ask questions like "Have there been any colour other then Grey in there past 2-3 generations?" "Have the produced a Grey out of a mare with no grey in the past 2-3 generations?" and questions related to that, it is also very possible the owner/breeder will not remember so be sure to find someone who is positive about their answer. ;)
