The answer varies throughout History.
In early days, the soldiers served their master or king, who provided them food, clothing and weapons. The uniform was a basic necessity for the soldier so that he could carry out his military duties without having to worry about his own needs.
Later, uniforms were made to provide a method to identify the soldiers. The uniform helped to identify friend from foe and to identify the type of soldier and his rank within his unit. Uniforms were standardized and each soldier became an element of a larger entity.
Uniforms also gave the soldiers a pride and taught them military discipline and bearing. A soldier had to be disciplined to learn how to clean his uniform, as well as his weapon. The uniform not only impressed his fellow soldiers but the enemy who he met in battle.
Finally, uniforms evolved to be a utilitarian item of equipment. It concealed him in combat. It allowed him to carry his personal items and equipment. Special belts and pockets and color patterns were designed into the uniform.

The Laws of Land Warfare require that a soldier distinguish himself from the civilian population by wearing distinctive clothing and/or a special symbol, and by carrying arms openly.
There are a few reasons. The original reason is that it allows soldiers to gather during battles--you just go over to someone dressed like you are. Uniforms are also a source of unit pride--we wear certain items that say which unit we're in. If you're in a famous unit like the 101st Airborne or the 2nd Armored, your patch says "I am in the best unit in the Army." (If you're in the 5th Infantry Division, your patch says "My MOS manager at the Pentagon didn't like me very much," but that's a story for another day.) The Laws of War say soldiers have to wear uniforms so the enemy knows they're soldiers, because there are different rules for treating soldiers than there are for treating illegal combatants like terrorists. When you capture a soldier, you have to treat him humanely among other things. If you catch a terrorist it's fine to just shoot him.
They do not tough easily

That would depend on the country that they came from or the unit they served in.

The Union uniform was blue, the Confederacy uniform was gray. Other than the color, the clothing was quite simple and ordinary. Uniforms were not elaborate.
Christ Jesus, the absolute head of church authority, did not wear any clerical robes or uniform. That's why when the Roman soldiers were coming to arrest Jesus, they needed someone to identify which one was Jesus. That's why Judas kissed Jesus, that was the pre-determined identifier for the soldiers.
Uniform means " the same". So a soldiers costume as you called it is uniform because they all dress the same.
Soldiers working under a UN mission wear a blue beret or helmet. They technically aren't UN soldiers. They remain soldiers for the country they come from.
what kind of stupid question is that heck yay
