I have viewed "churches" to be a lot like individuals. Each unique collection of people has the authority to practice their beliefs in the manner they believe is most true to God. Of course their are some definite parameters in place to encourage churches from wandering outside of the intention of God. Sometimes these "boundaries" are referred to as "fundamentals" of the faith.

The question of churches marrying "divorced couples but not same sex couples" falls into this area. Same sex marriages are outside the intentions of the One who instituted marriage in the first place. In every single instance where The Bible addresses homosexuality, it is condemned as "sin."

Some one once said "God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve."

There are some churches, even entire denominations who have chosen to not marry those who have been divorced. We ought to respect their belief and conviction although it appears this is inconsistent with CHARACTER of God and the teaching of the Word He has committed to us.

Answer:

This is all true, however the point is simple, Homosexuality is a sin. Divorce is allowed in certain circumstances in the Law of Moses and this was later explained more perfectly by Jesus. Because some consider it a "gray" area, some allow and some do not condone divorce. I personally being a Christian divorce should be consider a last resort, and then (my belief) is not to remarry.

There is no gray area concerning homosexuality, it is just sin 100 percent of the time.

some churches will not let you get re-married in a church because you are disobeying god. and they feel it is wrong to let anyone repeat their vows if they will break them again. catholics do NOT let you get a divorce however you can get an annulment but that mean you will not be able to re-marry, and you will not be able to go to church and take part with the ceremony.

Most religions believe that people are supposed to be heterosexual, not homosexual, so they do not want to do anything that might encourage or validate what they consider to be a wrong sexual orientation. But note that there do exist some churches in which gay people can get married.

------

Because God Planned it that way.

Women are supposed to marry Men

Women aren't supposed to marry Women

Men Aren't supposed to marry Men

Gay people can get married in several states and several countries. See related question links.

Because Jesus said that marriage can not be dissolved by man as written in Mark 10:9. Therefore, marriages are permanent and a married person can never marry another person so long as the other person lives.

In most countries, Christian Churches decide which couples they will marry and which they will not. (Some countries have national churches that are subject to the orders of the national legislature.)

Divorce is both prohibited and permitted in the Holy Bible. Jesus explains that divorce was originally prohibited, but then Moses allowed it because of the "hardness" of the hearts of the Israelites. Some churches permit divorced couples to remarry presumably for this same reason; some do not.

Same-sex marriage is not mentioned in the Bible. However, there is a prohibition of sexual activity between two men. Since it is assumed that couples, once married, will engage in sex (this is not true of all couples, however), many churches prohibit male-male couples to marry and even extend that prohibition to female-female couples. Some churches permit same-sex couples to marry because they say that the definition of marriage has changed over time, such as the change from polygamous marriages to monogamous ones.

Many of the major righteous persons mentioned in the Bible did not behave in accordance with conservative ideals. Abraham, Jacob, David and Solomon were all polygamists. Abraham slept with his servant. David had a woman's husband killed so he could marry her himself. Solomon married pagan women and permitted their worship in his household. Moses married a Black woman. Lot slept with his two daughters after the death of his wife. Joseph married a pregnant Mary, then lived with her in chastity. Jesus was a life-long bachelor.

Then, there is the argument that in the modern world, the purpose of marriage is not to have sex. This is especially true of same-sex couples, whose ability to have sex is not affected at all by whether they are permitted to marry.

Many churches that do not permit same-sex couples to marry point out that same-sex sexual activity cannot lead to procreation. These same churches, however, do not prohibit infertile couples from marrying, even though their marriages cannot lead to procreation.

Some have suggested that same-sex marriage is more vehemently opposed than the remarriage of divorced persons because of animus against gays and lesbians. The best way to decide whether this is true is to look at how individual churches treat single persons with a declared same-sex attraction, especially those who are chaste: whether they shun them or permit them to participate fully, including in positions of leadership.

If god accepts everybody then why can't same-sex couples marry in some churches?

Same sex couples can't marry in some churches because the leaders of those churches are mentally challenged homophobes and they think it is against nature. People are stupid sometimes.

When is the best time to get divorced?

Marriage is based on trust and open and honest communication. Some people choose to try to save their marriages, but aren't always successful. If couples can't solve their problems themselves and refuse help, they should get divorced ASAP.

Why do couples get divorced?

People change with time, and they get to know each other better. Sometimes that brings them together, but it's more likely to drive them apart. Friendship is more enduring than love.

Why did some churches support California's Proposition 8?

Some Christian denominations point to the few verses from the Bible that vilify homosexuals as justification for opposing civil marriage rights for same-sex couples, even those who do not belong to their church. This is the main reason why the Mormon Church and the Knights of Columbus (an organization within the Catholic Church) were major proponents of Proposition 8. Although some churches cited the fear that they would be sued for discrimination for refusing to marry same-sex couples, that fear is illusory, since churches are exempt from the anti-discrimination laws of California and always have been. A church cannot be sued for refusing to marry people who have been divorced, or who do not belong to their faith, and likewise they could not be sued for discrimination on the basis of gender, sexual orientation, disability, age, race, color or national origin. They are statutorily exempt from anti-discrimination laws.

What kind of church will allow divorced people to get married?

Well I've gone to a Baptist church my whole life and I've seen and been at many divorced weddings. The United also accepts these weddings.AnswerMost churches don't mind. Many churches don't mind. You don't have to publicize that you've been married before. AnswerThat's pretty sad that a church, a place that is supposed to be loving and accepting, is not accepting people that have made mistakes. Gosh, keep looking, maybe you'll find a REAL church. AnswerMost Protestant Churches accept divorced marriages. The Catholic Church does not, the prior marriages must be annulled. AnswerCatholic and Anglican refuse to marry a divorced person. I was married before and my second husband and I decided to get married at an Anglican Church simply because it was closer for most of the guests (many from out-of-town) to come to. They refused and we were married further away in a Protestant Church (I am Protestant.) Answer"Most churches don't mind. Many churches don't mind. You don't have to publicize that you've been married before." THAT'S NOT TRUE!!! WHEN MARRYING IN THE UK YOU HAVE TO SHOW PROOF THAT THE ORIGINAL MARRIAGE WAS NULLIFIED. YOU HAVE TO PROVIDE THEM WITH THE DECREE ABSOLUTE. IF YOU DO NOT DECLARE YOUR MARITAL STATUS AND MARRY IN A CHURCH WHICH DOES NOT ALLOW DIVORCED PEOPLE TO MARRY, IN THEIR EYES YOU ARE COMMITTING BIGAMY!!!!I suggest the person who answered above go and check their facts!!!
