If you use the goat for the milk, it is advised that they get some alfalfa but if it is just a pet goat, you can feed it pasture grass or grass hay or just let it graze in your yard. They do not have to have alfalfa.

It depends on what your vet recommends. If your horse is prone to colic you could use alfalfa. I use coastal for my horse, and it is more traditional. But if your horse has digestion problems you would use a different kind.
How many different kinds of grass are there?
There are many different kinds of forage crops that have the appropriate nutritional benefits to make hay for animals. Some include clover, alfalfa, birdsfoot trefoil, sanfoin, laspadenza, cicer milkvetch, and grasses include timothy, orchard grass, bromegrass, wheatgrass, ryegrass, fescue, and bluegrass. The different hay types include grass hay, legume hay, and grass-legume mix hay. The highest nutritional-type hay is legume, but the risks of legume-only hay is bloat, so grass-legume mix hay is the most popular type of hay that many livestock producers use. Grass hay is much better for horses because of the lower energy content as opposed to the legume hay.
Do rabbits need hay?
Rabbits less than a year old should be offered unlimited amounts of alfalfa hay, due to the high amounts of calcium in alfalfa hay: baby bunnies need calcium to build strong bones. For the same reason, alfalfa is good for pregnant/nursing rabbits. Adult rabbits may be offered alfalfa but only in limited amounts (as a treat). Once past a year or so old, gradually transition the rabbit to grass hay, timothy, oat, brome, or orchard hay, by first mixing the alfalfa into the grass hay. Actually what I use for my bunny's is a blue grass or alfalfa. They love to snack on it and its good for them. It's actually a necessity for them to have on the side as well as flavored salt licks for rabbits and bunny's. Hope this helps. =)
