A Democracy is "Rule by all People", where each person has direct input on every law.

A Republic is "Rule by a Representative Group", where only a few people have direct input on every law.

The US is therefore closer to a Republic than a true Democracy. However, it is not a "true Republic". The best description of our government type is Democratic Republic. All people vote to elect the representative group, who are therefore inclined to cast their votes according to the majority desire of the masses they represent, or in the manner they feel best benefits those people.

There are two main definitions of democracy. One is the wider ambit definition of any political system where all politicians are elected by the people or are appointed by elected politicians. There is narrower ambit of direct democracy, which is where all policies are directly chosen by the people. The US is a republic, which is a form of indirect democracy. US citizens rarely vote on specific policies. (When they do, these are called referenda.) This ambiguity in the definition of democracy is the root of the issue.

The United States is called a representative democracy because, while the people rule, decisions are made not directly by them but by representatives acting on their behalf.

It's too big to expect every single eligible citizen to participate directly in the government. It's just not efficient or practical

What democracy is better for the US?

The US is not a Democracy and no democracy is good for the US.You can research this some more at: www.cashdrag.com/republicmagazine.htmlIn a democracy.. 51% of the people can tell the other 49% how things are going to be.. and if you don't agree.. well to bad..That is not how America is supposed to be ran.The US is a Republic and democracy should have no part in a Republic for the people.People have been fooled for years into thinking that Democracy is what America has as a government. That is not the case, but they still run it like it's a democracy, simply because the people have not stood up against it. This is how they slowly take away your Liberty and Freedoms as Americans. If you recall the Pledge of Allegiance... it states:I pledge allegiance to the flag of the united States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, Indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all.
