There is a small plastic piece that rotts away after years of use. Any mechanic can replace it in 15 min.
Perhaps brake lights? Check the stoplight switch at the upper end of the brake pedal under dash area

The lights stay on because is showing where is the traction of the vehicle ,since the first montero that the way it is .

are you sure it is the brake lights and not the tail lights. if it is the brake lights you most likely have a short some where. go to a auto eletrican It is the brake lights which turn on. Short in the switch or the wiring?
Check the brake light switch. It's probably attached to the brake pedal, under the dashboard.
