You dont have to be 18 to be independent you can do that at any age. The age of consent and maturity according to the law is different. You have to figure that most teenagers graduate from school at the age of 17, most still live with their parents and depend on them for shelter, food and money, etc. Independence comes from within, like you can think independently, act independent -ly, and most of all be independent.
