The ancient pyramids mattered to the Egyptians because they usually contain the burial places of pharoahs, queens and etc. However, other pyramids like the three pyramids in Giza, do not have an entrance. An entrance has not been found for those (without destroying the pyramid) and is believed to contain something important. The pyramids are also important because they represent one of history's greatest architectual acomplishments.
