Well if it is in Harvest Moon DS it might be because you are littering in the valley. Their affection will go down if you litter in the valley but you can litter on your farm and they will still like you.

Sometimes litter, putting things on the ground in the towns or even your farm. Sometimes because you haven't visited in a while, or your animals got sick. There is all different reasons, so specify your version of HM and ask then.
