I would suspect the transmission range sensor / neutral safety switch.
This has been known to cause all sorts of strange electrical related problems.

rear brakes need adjustment srar wheel froozen
Since most engine cooling fans these days are electric, they can (and will) run even with the ignition off and the key removed. This happens frequently after being run, and the vehicle senses that it needs to cool things down, so it will engage the fan automatically.
The STX-38 should have an electric clutch for the mower deck. The switch to engage it is on the right rear fender. It is a toggle switch. You will have to pull up on the switch and forward to engage the blades.
Well I seem to have a similar situation.. I would say your 'ping' is a bit of a 'sprong' on my 95 Windstar. Further the brake pedal seems to bind, makes the sound and not engage the brakes.. I can apply more pressure and pass through the bind to engage the brakes or with some pumping of the pedal the binding dissipates and the brakes engage properly.. I was wondering if this is similar to your situation? Unfortunately I do not have the answer; I am on the 'net today looking for information! Should I find any info pf value I will post here.. Regards, Styx
I don't think so... I think the transmission need electric power to engage.
Yes. If I understand the troubleshooting guide , a bad chip in the ignition key will tell the interrupter relay to not let the starter engage/turn, thus keeping the vehicle from starting.
a hybrid is just that, a hybrid. it has a generator and a petroleum engine. the petrol powered engine starts and as it works it charges the electric one. when you brake this charges the electric one even more. once you drive at a constant speed (freeway) the electric engine will engage and thus save fuel.
if its an electric clutch the solonid that engages it may be bad, if its a manual engagment, the belt may be bad,or a spring has come off,
Some of them do, if that's their function. Solenoids are electric switches. A small amount of current to the coil causes the electric switch to be able to conduct a large amount of current. One application for a solenoid in a transmission is to engage the "lockup" torque converter.
A four wheel drive actuator works by either a mechanical or electric solinod what will engage when you turn 4x4 on depending on what make and model your vehicle is the location
Australians have cars, buses, planes, and every transportation that the rest of the world has. But some of the more unusual vehicles would have to be the Skybus, electric trams such as can be found in Brisbane, and the electric cars that engage in the annual solar power vehicle race across the continent.
