Why do thick sauces go watery when you start to eat - is it just me or some thing in my saliva?

It's just you. Just kidding! it IS something that's in your saliva that thins the sauce out. when the sauce touches your tongue, the little holes in the back of your cheeks extract a lot of saliva and that is just like adding water to the sauce. Bon appetite!

It's your saliva. Not just too much of it but the makeup. When I eat thick broccoli cheddar soup ( or others) after a couple of bites, and putting the spoon in the bowl to get another bite, the entire bowl of soup becomes watery.
