normal tyres have air in because the particles aren't packed as tightly as the rubber particles of the solid tyre. This means the air tyres can change shape to reduce the force of a bump.

If a car is set up for low profile tires and they put regular ones on dose it make a difference?

The main difference is the feeling of the car, with low profile tires you experience a 'stiffer' ride as there is less rubber on the tires. With regular profile tires the ride is more smoother as there is more rubber to absorb the bumps. A car will also perform better with lower profile tires as there is more handling and response from the car. Hope this helps :)

How do tires that contain air absorb some of the energy of bumps on a racing circuit?

The tires absorb very little of this energy. The energy that they do absorb is due to the flexing of the tire, especially of the side wall.Related Information:This is a very important safety consideration, affecting the controllability and stability of the car at high speeds. Almost all of this energy is absorbed and controlled by the car's suspension. Depending upon the suspension configuration: the springs, shock absorbers and torsion bars, in various iterations & combinations work in concert to safely absorb this energy.
