I celebrate Memorial Day because of the following.

Memorial day is a posthumous award given to those who have laid down their life for the good of their country. Without question, without hesitation, and without any thought of, or concern for, personal self.

These men and women do not just come from wars, but also from industry. Many coal miners, steel workers, pipe fitters, and foundry workers paid the ultimate price during the industrial revolution, and continue to do so to this day.

There were the early settlers that died so we could have our borders. The railroad workers who gave their lives for a country that was, at first, foreign and unwelcoming. Union laborers fighting for the rights of the common man, and suffrogette's that fought for the common woman.

There have been countless law enforcement officer's, rescue personell, and first responders who pay this price daily, just so that we may be safe. There are those who have been lost fighting a war they weren't even aware of, and those who were lost that saw it coming, and vowed to go out fighting.

May all who gave their lives for this create country be remembered this day, and may the memory of their sacrifices never be forgotten. Think of words like honor, duty, or pride. And do so with love, humility, and respect.

God bless all who are remembered today. We will never forget your sacrifice!
