If your respiratory system isn't working right then oxygen that would normally go to the lungs and make gas exchange happen in the alveoli, getting oxygen in to the blood and going to your heart and working muscles. So if you don't get enough oxygen coming through the respiratory system then your heart wont get enough oxygenated blood around the body through the circulatory system to the working muscles. So energy will not get to the muscles making them not as efficient as they should be.
Effective functioning of your body depends on enough oxygen available for body processes. The respiratory system provides oxygen to your body, and so protecting its health is important.
Without it you die in just 4 minutes.
