However, there are a fairly large number of pagan people(especially women) who grow their hair long, either for asthetic reasons(it's pretty) or because they feel it's more traditional or natural. As well, people who incorporate certain native spiritualities into their religion may grow their hair long as this is a tradition of many First Nations groups.
Witches have all sorts of hairdo's. There is no consensus. There might be a cultural one for certain Witches in some regions of the world. But in other regions, Witches' haircuts may be deemed by personal preference. I am a male Witch with a short haircut... but I used to have long hair, which I would often tie back into a pony-tail. I also have known Witches with mohawks, shaved heads, long hair, or just about any hairstyle you can think of.

This has never gone away, but centuries ago people who had red hair were often seen as witches and people who were not part of a community but considered outsiders or odd were seen as witches. Witchcraft was often used to explain events in a community.
