What characteristics do you have to have for the holy spirit to be upon you?

By characterisics i assume you mean personality qualtiies? None. The holy spirit is part of God. God does not choose who he loves depending on whether they are confident, happy, shy, genourous, sad, bouncy etc - the holy spirit comes upon you when you pray or read the bible or worship or sing worship songs. Whatever you are doing that glorifies God - the holy spirit may come upon you. People react in different ways. Some people speak in tounges, others shake, cry, faint, whatever. It is amazing and happens to anyone. So no, you don't need any special characteristics

What does this passage mean But the Counselor the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you?

What Christ is saying here is that if you wish to know the truth of what I have told you then ask the Farther in my name and the Holy Spirit will confirm to you of the truth of my words. The Holy Spirit is also a teacher when one is ready and receptive to the spirits promptings. If you ask with a sincere heart having faith in Christ the Holy Ghost will confirm all things to you. No sooner when the Holy Spirit comes on one, He takes charge of teaching the word of God and He will bring to your remembrance scriptures from all the books of the bible. To obtain biblical wisdom is part of the gift of knowledge and must be learnt from God. John 6:45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me. John the baptist said, "A man can receive nothing except it be given him from heaven." John 3:27 Remember though, I said, "No sooner when the Holy Spirit comes." The Holy Spirit will come to those who believe in Christ and accept him. If you are still in your sins and do not know Christ or believe in him, the bible is a sealed book. Isaiah 29:9-12 Stay yourselves and wonder, cry ye out and cry: they are drunken, but not with wine; they stagger, but not with strong drink. For the Lord hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep, and hath closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, the seers hath he covered. And the vision of all is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one that is learned, saying, "Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I cannot; for it is sealed," And the book is delivered to him that is learned, saying, "Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I am not learned." Unless your sins are forgiven, the bible is a sealed book.

What word comes from translating a French word to English as 'to cry out'?

"Crier" and "cry" are words that come from translating a French word to English as "to cry out." The French verb crier in turn comes from the Vulgar Latin crītāre and ultimately from the ancient Latin quirītāre for "to cry out in protest" or "to make a public cry."

What is the connection with pentacost and the holy spirit?

The Holy Trinity is a concept in Christianity that tries to explain the relationship between God the Father, Jesus Christ as God the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Christians believe that there is one God yet in three persons - much the same (although not exacty the same!) as a man could be described as a work colleague, a husbamd or a father depending upon the situation. Whereas at Trinity Sunday we think especially of the Trinity, at Christmas and Easter we think especially of Jesus as God the Son and what the Father did in jesus' birth and resurrection, at Pentecost we think of the Holy Spirit. Pentecost was the time when the disciples met and received the Holy Spirit that gave them confidence and strength to go out and preach the good news of Jesus. This was the result of a prophesy made hundreds of years before by Joel (Chapter 2, 28-32) which can be read in the Bible in the Old Testament in the Book of Joel. From dejected fishermen, tax collectors and such like, they were transformed into a dynamic force proclaiming the message and enabling the aspread of Christianity to take place at a lightning rate despite persecution from the authorities. The whole story can be read in the Bible, Acts Chapter 2.

What are Catholic beliefs on confirmation?

Roman Catholic Answer:In the Latin rite the sacrament of Confirmation is conferred through the anointing with chrism on the forehead, which is done by the laying on of the hand, and through the words: "Be sealed with the Gift of the Holy Spirit." The effect of the sacrament if the special outpouring of the Holy Spirit as once granted to the apostles on the day of Pentecost. It brings an increase and deepening of baptismal grace. It roots us more deeply in the divine filiation which makes us cry, "Abba! Father!"It unites us more firmly to Christ. It increases the gifts of the Holy Spirit in us.It renders our bond with the Church more perfect. It gives us a special strength of the Holy Spirit to spread and defend the faith by word and action as true witnesses of Christ, to confess the name of Christ boldly, and never to be ashamed of the cross.from the Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2nd edition

When does the bishop say 'Be sealed with the Holy Spirit'?

Roman Catholic AnswerThe Sacrament that seals us with the gift of the Holy Spirit and strengthens us is the Sacrament of Confirmation: from The Catechism of the Catholic Church, second edition, English translation 19941302 It is evident from its celebration that the effect of the sacrament of Confirmation is the special outpouring of the Holy Spirit as once granted to the apostles on the day of Pentecost.1303 From this fact, Confirmation brings and increase and deepening of baptismal grace:- it roots us more deeply in the divine filiation which makes us cry, "Abba! Father!; (Rom 8:15)- it unites us more firmly to Christ;- it increases the gifts of the Holy Spirit in us;- it renders our bond with the church more perfect; (Cf. Lumen Gentium 11)- it gives us a special strength of the Holy Spirit to spread and defend the faith by word and action as true witnesses of Christ, to confess the name of Christ boldly, and never to be ashamed of the Cross: (Cf. Council of Florence (1439): Denzinger-Schometzer, Enchiridion Symbolorum, definitionum et declarationum de rebus fidei et morum {1965} 1319; Lumen Gentium 11; 12)Recall then that you received the spiritual seal, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of right judgment and courage, the spirit of knowledge and reverence, the spirit of holy fear in God's presence. Guard what you have received. God the Father has marked you with his sign; Christ the Lord has confirmed you and has placed his pledge, the spirit, in your hearts. (St. Ambrose, De myst. 7, 42: J.P. Migne, ed., Patrologia Latina (Paris: 1841-1855) 16, 402-403)
