Deleting Upper and Lower Filters is a way to solve problems related to viewing the CD/DVD Drive on My Computer. It is common to do this when a person can no longer see the Drive on My Computer, and/or the CD/DVD ROM Drive does not read or write any disc that is inserted into the drive. Upper and Lower Filters are codes in the Registry Editer that represent other, possibly virtual CD/DVD ROM drives that may have been installed from the internet that are corrupted. Deleting the Filters deletes a block on the original CD/DVD ROM drive that is caused by the corrupted programs. In other words, Upper and Lower Filters block the CD/DVD ROM drive from working properly.

Why would you delete an upper filter?
Well, let me begin by always advising to delete the filters, be it upper or lower. I have done this many of times & it has always worked a treat You do not in anyway need to back up the registry. Navigate to the correct entry in the reg, & delete everything on the righthand side, reboot & you will get your ctrl-alt-del login screen. Login & your good to go, problem solved
