Why do you get excessive chatter in 1st gear upon acceleration in your 1998 Pontiac grand prix gtp?

It is most likely coming from the supercharger. They have meshing gears inside that when worn produce a ratling sound. You can buy kits to replace them. They are not hard to do, but you must be patient and observe when taking your super charger apart. You must also relace the oil at the same time. it is usually included in the kit. Hope this helps.
