The tiny hairs in your nose are called "cillia". The function of cillia is

to keep insects, dust and other foreign particles from being breathed into your lungs and sinuses. They serve as an air filter. The mucus in your nose serves much the same purpose and lets you blow out the particles caught by the cilia.
