Best Answer

To do research about the universe, life in space, and many other topics.

Research in Zero Gravity Environments, both for production, and potential life in space. Basic research on what it will take for humans to spread to other planets or stars.

Potentially a space station could become a platform for maintaining satellites, or even space ships. I.E. Wouldn't it be more practical to launch a Hubble Repair crew from the space station than from Earth.
