The pour point is the lowest temperature at which the fuel will flow. Pour point depressant will allow fuel to be used at a lower temperature without problems. Fuel oil must be pumped before it is used and if the viscosity is too high the oil will not flow easily. Pour point depressant might also allow fuel oil to be stored at a lower temperature thus saving some energy that would normally be used to keep it above its pour point.
