∙ 11y agoThe adrenal glands, which sit on top of the renal glands (kidneys), make several hormones: 1. epinephrine (adrenaline) and norepinephrine (noradrenaline). These two act in opposition to each other. These are called the "fight or flight" hormones, 2. mineralocorticoids (example: aldosterone), 3. glucocorticoids (ex: cortisol) and 4. androgens. Aldosterone helps the kidneys hold on to sodium. Cortisol increases blood sugar. The androgens stimulate puberty and female sex drive. Without these glands the body could not survive.
