Women can get very tired. I think it has to do with the lack of iron due to blood loss. They call it "fatigue", but sometimes it can be "exhausting"! You just want to crawl into a corner and go to sleep for 18 hours a day.

You need to sleep during menstruation for the same reasons you need to sleep any other time of your menstrual cycle. You need sleep to allow your body to function normally and healthily.
