The Phonics Approach advocates teaching children by breaking down words into their component sounds, called phonics, then putting the phonics together into words (Gray et al., 2007). Reading in this approach involves learning gradually more complex units: phonics, then single words, then short sentences, then somewhat longer sentences, and so on. After mastering their phonics and being able to read simple words and sentences, children begin to read longer materials such as poems and stories. The other major approach to teaching reading is the Whole-Language Approach. In this view, the emphasis should be on the meaning of written language in whole passages, rather than breaking down each word into its smallest components. This approach advocates teaching children to read using complete written material, such as poems, stories, and lists of related items. Children are encourage to guess the meaning of words they do not know, based on the context of the word within the written material. In this view, the material is coherent and interesting, children will be motivated to learn and remember the meaning of words they do not know.Which approach works best? Each sides have advocates, but evidence is substantial that the phonics approach is more effective at teaching children who are first learning to read.

There are multiple programs offered that teach children how to read. Hooked on Phonics, while an industry leader, is not a unique product to teach kids how to read.
Phonics alone does not help dyslexia. Dyslexic readers have difficulty changed the written word into spoken word because they struggle with basic auditory processing skills. Before you learn phonics you need to master these basic skills like phonemic awareness and fluency. Phonics builds on top of these skills and you can not understand phonics or learn to read well without them. There are a lot of programs that teach phonemic awareness and fluency before phonics. My favorite is Sound Reading Solutions which teaches these foundational building blocks and then moves on to cover more advanced skills like comprehension and phonics.
SIPPS stands for Systematic Instructions in Phoneme Awareness, Phonics, and Sight Words. They are a solution for people who have a hard time reading. This program can teach people what is needed to be able to read, as each person learns differently, the problems that cause people to have reading disabilities are also different. SIPPS tackles the individuals problem instead of trying to use a "one solution" fits all approach to reading disabilities.

Jolly Phonics is a multi sensory system to teach children to read and write. One can print out Jolly Phonics materials at various websites including Miss Mermagh, Jolly Learning, Net Mums, and ESL Printables.
Phonic based reading education begins with teaching children the alphabet and associating the sounds of the letters with the symbols, after this the child is taught to recognize the sounds in words and then to make connections of the word sound b = buh, and so on and link these sounds together with the letter that they recognize in words. Phonics is according to many the best way to teach a child to read.
One of the conflicts in literacy education is whether to teach phonics or whole language. Fortunately, most educators now realize they need to teach both to be effective.
Popular phonic game learning systems include LeapFrog, Family Learning UK, Starfall, Soft Schools, Sadlier-Oxford, Phonics Play UK, and Super Simple Learning.
