Why do you not feel upside down when you are standing on Antarctica?

The gravitational pull of the earth keeps you on the ground no matter where you go. It is impossible to "fall off the Earth" because the attraction everywhere is toward the center of the Earth.
Wherever you are on the planet, the sky is 'up' and the earth is 'down' from your perspective. It's only on maps and globes that it looks like you might be in danger of 'falling off'.
*This same gravitational pull is what keeps the Moon, and space satellites, in their orbits no matter where they are around the planet.

This is a Northern Hemisphere-based notion.
Earth's gravity keeps you standing upright wherever you go on the planet.

∙ 8y agoIf you live in the Northern Hemisphere, you may believe that Antarctica -- and everything south of the Equator -- should be 'upside down'.
However, no location on earth is truly 'upside down' -- although it may appear to be that way on maps and globes.

No seriously, they look terrifying but when you go on them it just feels like sitting down normally, maybe a little bit of weightlessness and seeing the sky ( or whatevers around you ) spin round once. You come off your seat a little bit but if you hold on tight it doesn't feel as strange. Roller Coasters in the dark are a little scarier because the loops are unexpected. At least you are safe locked in big, bulky restraints. :-)well if you live in vancouver bc playland or pne has a rollercoaster called corkscrew and it goes up side down and you don't even notise but thats my opinion
