When can you not see the moon from Earth?

The only times that you couldn't see the moon from Earth are when: 1. It's orbit makes it currently at the other side of the Earth 2. It's a new moon, so no sunlight reflection is coming off the moon, meaning we can't see it.

The side of the moon that faces the sun always illuminated but that side does not always face earth the different phases of the moon are caused by the moon near 28 days?

The phases of the Moon are caused by the angle between the Moon and the Sun changing. At one time we see the illuminated side, at another time, its dark side. When we cannot see the moon at all?

1. When it is below the horizon. 2. when it is in the Sun's glare 2 days either side of New Moon.

Why dont you ever get to see the dark side of the moon?

The best, most literally accurate answer to that question is: "Because it's dark".Parts of the moon's dark side ranging from 'none of it' to 'all of it' are turned toward us in the course of 29-1/2 days. But we can only see the portion of the moon that the sun shines on ... the "light side". The portion of the dark sidethat's turned toward us doesn't show up at all. That's why we see only part of a disk, and the rest of it is missing.

What is on the side of the moon that you cant see?

The side of the moon facing away from Earth is known as the "far side" or "dark side" of the moon. This side appears to be dark because it does not receive direct sunlight, but it is not permanently dark, as it still gets sunlight at certain times during the moon's orbit.

Why one side of the moon called the dark side of moon?

There are two reasons: 1. At any given time, one side of the Moon is dark because it's facing away from the Sun. 2. The rotation of the Moon in relation to its orbit around the Earth keeps the same side always facing the Earth. We NEVER see the other side.

A week after the full moon the moon looks like a semi circle again?

Essentially yes. The moon takes roughly 4 weeks to orbit the earth. During this period we see only the parts of the moon that are lit relative to the moon's position to the sun and the earth, as seen from the earth. During a new moon, the moon is between the earth and sun, so only the "back side" of the moon is lit and we can't see it at all (and BTW, if the moon is DIRECTLY between the earth and sun, we have a "solar eclipse". As you can guess, solar eclipses can ONLY occur during "new moons"). A week later, the moon has orbited earth so that the moon is "next to" the earth relative to the sun, and we see half of the lit surface of the moon. This is a "half moon". A week later, the moon has orbited so that the sun is on one side of the earth and the moon is on the other. This is the "full moon" and we can see the entire side of the moon that's lit by the sun. And BTW...when the earth is DIRECTLY between the sun and the moon, we get a "lunar eclipse". And as you can guess again, a lunar eclipse can ONLY occur during a full moon. And again a week later, the moon has orbited earth so that the moon is "next to" the earth relative to the sun, and we see half of the lit surface of the moon. This is another "half moon", but unlike the half moon 2 weeks ago, the moon is on the OTHER side of the earth, so we see the OTHER half of the lit side of the moon. Finally, a week after that, the moon has orbited to a point between the earth and the sun again, and we're back to a "new moon" again. And one last "BTW", this roughly 4 week cycle of the moon's phases is where we get the word "month" from.

When the moon appear half moon?

A half moon appears when only half of the moon's illuminated side is visible from Earth. This occurs when the moon is at a 90-degree angle relative to the Earth and the sun, known as the first quarter or third quarter moon.

What is it called hen the lighted portion of them moon appears to get larger?

Waxing. From the new moon (where it isn't visible) through to the full moon (when it is visible from earth as a full circle, all night long). At "New Moon" the moon is between the earth and the sun, so we can only see the dark side (but because it's dark you can't actually see it !). Over the next 2 weeks the moon continues it's orbit around the earth, becoming progressively more and more visible as each day goes by, until we see the "full moon", which is when the moon is on the opposite side of the earth to the sun and is fully illuminated by the sun. Over the following 2 weeks the visible area of the moon reduces, as the moon completes it's monthly orbit of the earth (actually 29.5 days). This is known as waning.
