You do not study Hanukkah. You celebrate it. It is a holiday, not a school subject.

Answer:

The above answer is fundamentally mistaken. Hanukkah, like every other part of Jewish tradition, is indeed a subject for study (and is part of the school curriculum in Israel, and in Jewish schools elsewhere too).

We study about Hanukkah because it is part of our tradition and therefore is considered a Torah-subject. It is mentioned in such Torah-sources as the Mishna, the Talmud, and Megillat Taanit.

Hanukkah has certain lessons to teach us, such as the value of self-sacrifice and the need to avoid assimilation. It is also a time of Thanksgiving to God.
