to strengthen the colonies against the French
The Albany Plan
Prior to the Revolutionary War, the east coast of what is now the U.S. was a collection of British colonies. When the Colonies got together and declared their independence from Great Britain, the British did not recognize the independence of the United States, and they attacked. When, under the command of Gen. George Washington, the U.S. Army defended against the British, the Revolutionary War was under way.
The Albany Congress, also known as the Albany Conference, was a meeting of representatives of seven of the British North American colonies in 1754 (specifically, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island). Representatives met daily at Albany, New York from June 19 to July 11 to discuss better relations with the Indian tribes and common defensive measures against the French.
In 1754 representatives of 7 colonies met in Albany NY to discuss a plan to unify the colonist in the face of war with the French. The outcome was the Albany Plan of Union written by Ben Franklin. It provided for a federal union of the mainland colonies under the British crown. Each colony would elect representatives to a Grand Council. This "general government" would have the power to make peace or war as well as financial and command responsibility for defense, Indian relation's and regulation of frontier settlement. They would also make laws and levy taxes. The plan was passed by the congress, but never went any further because most of the individual colonies want to keep their decentralized governments.
because it was the fist plan brought up during the time that tried to unify all of the colonies under one centralized government unit
The Albany Plan of Union was a plan to place the British North American colonies under a more centralized government. On July 10, 1754, representatives from seven of the British North American colonies adopted the plan. Although never carried out, the Albany Plan was the first important proposal to conceive of the colonies as a collective whole united under one government.
At the Albany Congress of 1754, Benjamin Franklin proposed that the colonies be united by a Grand Council overseeing a common policy for defense. it was an early indication that the British colonies of North America were headed towards unification.
The original 13 colonies were the united states at one time, they loosely joined together under the Articles of Confederation.
Ben Franklin's attempt to get the colonies to unite under one central government was called the Albany Congress. It led to a rejection of the congress's proposal for rule by London or the individual colonies.
Yes, the French.
The Albany Plan
In 1754 delegates to the Albany Convention proposed a Union of all the colonies based upon a plan established by Benjamin Franklin. Many items were discussed at the Convention and once a plan was agreed upon, the Albany Plan of Union was sent to all the colonies and to Great Britain's Board of Trade. Almost all of the colonies rejected the plan. The colonies, at that time, were concerned about a central government that would have too much power. Most of the colonists were provincial in outlook, jealous of other colonies, and dead set against any central taxing policy. During the war, the Albany Plan served as a rough draft for the Articles of Confederation.

Australia's colonies became states as part of the process of federation, which took place in 1901. The colonies saw the benefits of joining together to form a unified nation and gain more control over their own affairs. This allowed for better coordination and governance across the continent.
