Because North Korea was on the verge of defeat and China did not want western military forces near her border...
It caused China to enter the Korean War.
There were TWO CHINAS during the Cold War. Nationalist China on the island of Formosa, now called taiwan; and Mainland China, known & called Red China during the Cold War: The words Red China is in the United States 1969 dictionary. Red China entered the Korean War in 1950 after US/Allied Forces came too close to their border, when the allies INVADED NORTH KOREA. This is why the US did NOT invade NORTH VIETNAM during the Vietnam War. We didn't want the same thing to happen again.

US/UN forces invaded North Korea and were driving towards the Chinese Communist (Chicom) border. Not knowing if the US/UN forces were going to stop there...or keep going...Red China counter-attacked.
Neither. The instigator of the Korean War was the North Korean People's Army, which invaded South Korea on the 25th of June in 1950. On June 28th of the same year, South Korea bombed the bridge on the Han River. Up until this point, the United States had refused to engage in an act of war in Korea. But due to the change of events, and first entered combat against North Korean on July 5th. The People's Republic of China would not enter the conflict until three months after the initial confrontation.
It caused China to enter the Korean War.
