Why do you think Romans valued peaceful family life but also enjoyed watching violent combat in roman arenas what does this tell us about the Romans?

Tells us they were human and humanity hasn't changed much. People spend weekends watching football and other sports. They spend millions of dollars on games and sportswear. At least the Roman games were free instead of supporting sports leagues that make billions. There is no difference between us and the Romans watching violence in a sport.
