it was important to keep the border states in union
I don't know, what i do know is at the beginning Lincoln said he was fighting to save the union.
because he want to his state to be free first
to End slavery
Abraham Lincoln disagreed with slavery right from the get-go .. :) Hope I helped ..
At the beginning of the Civil War Lincoln was fighting in the belief that "All men are created equal" and towards the end he was fighting in the belief that slavery should come to an end and that all slaves should be freed.
He was fighting against the south so he was with the north fighting against slavery.
one answer to this qustion is that it is because Abraham Lincoln didn't want slavery
To prevent the south from seceding from the north.
Abraham Lincoln and his supporters hoped to end slavery and unite the country back together.
Lincoln believed it was important to keep these borders states in union, even though that were slave states. That is why in 1861 he continued to say that his aim was to hold the united states together, not to abolish slavery.
I assume you mean the American Civil War. At the beginning, it was purely over secession. Later Lincoln turned it into a war against slavery with his Emancipation Proclamation, partly to make his own demoralised people feel that they were fighting a crusade, but more urgently to keep Britain and France from helping the Confederates (because it would make them look pro-slavery).
His assassination made people see that the civil war is over, and they should stop fighting about slavery. It also made people see that slavery is unjust.
