Because they embody the spirit of a people, who are even today the same at heart. A lot of things have changed over the centuries..but the collective unconscious of this part of the world still cherishes those values...or else who would not dismiss the thoughts therein as irrelevant to these times!?!

Our epics still hold the conscience of this Nation. The Ramayana where Rama made his life, why his wife's life also "subservient" to the call of Dharma. One might today dispute many of Rama's decisions as "unfair" but when a man plays the role of the Ideal Man where he does justice to his many roles--well Ramayana immortalizes this..!

Same could be said of The Mahabharata- which is home to the adage:"yadihAsti tadanyatra, yannehaasti tannaanyatra"

"What you see here, you see elsewhere, what you do not see here that isn't there anywhere!" MB shows the real world and its people; Man as he is! Ramayana shows Man as he should be!
