The reason why Charlotte accepts Captain Jaggery's offer of frienship quicker than Zachariahs. Is because Zachariah is not in the same class as her and doesnt talk to anyone who isnt in the same class as her. She doesnt think she wants to be friends with someone who isnt in the same class as her and works on a ship. Captain Jaggery is in the same class as her because he's the captain of the ship and he works for her father. She also knows that the captain runs a very tight ship.
When Zachariah tells her about captain Jaggery and gives her the dirk she doesnt know if Zachariah is telling the truth about the caoptain and she definitly does NOT want the dirk.
