It explained the seasons. After Hades stole persephone and made her his bride, he kept her in the underworld and in that time, Demeter was depressed so she gave the Greeks bad harvest, and with Persephone being in the underworld, no flowers could grow. This explained winter. During summer and spring, demeter and Persephone were re-united, so flowers bloomed on earth again, and the people's crops were revived.

Zeus did not abduct Persephone, Hades did. They were in a garden when Hades noticed her. He immediately grabbed Persephone and fled to the underworld. Some people think that Zeus had a part in devising a plan to kidnap her, but whether that is true or not, I do not know. When Hades grabbed her, Persephone let out a loud scream. Demeter heard this and dropped what she was doing to help her daughter, but when she arrived, Persephone was gone. Demeter wandered the country side looking for her daughter, completely forgetting her task as an Olympian Goddess. Greece was plauged with droughts and crops would not grow. Demeter wandered for a great deal of time before Zeus ordered Hades to return Persephone. Hades pretended to comply but first tricked Persephone into eating a pomegranat seed. If you eat food from the underworld you are immediately property of Hades. Zeus and Hades then worked out a compromise. Persephone would stay in the Underworld for 9 months and would be returned to Demeter for 4 months. Thus we have the seasons. Demeter is too depressed to work with her daughter gone, so crops won't grow in the winter. When Persephone is with her mother, crops flourish.

We get summer when Persephone is home, Autumn when Demeter is sad because her daughter has to go soon, Winter when she is in the underworld and Spring when Demeter is looking forward to her return.

Hades didn't force Persephone to marry him. Zeus (Persephone's Father) promised her hand in marriage to Hades, but he neglected to inform both Persephone and Demeter (Persephone's Mother) of this. Hades came to claim his bride, which turned into an abduction because Persephone didn't know about it. She was very mad and upset at him for a very long time, but I do believe that she eventually warmed up to him (since due to the eating of pomegranate seeds she spends half of the year with him), and I think she did marry him of her own accord.

Well of course I do! The first story I can think of is the story of how she became the Queen of the Underworld. (sounds terrible, doesn't it?) Some info you should know first- Persephone's mom is Demeter Husband is Hades Father is Zeus Persephone is the goddess of spring the goddess of innocence the Queen of the Underworld Here's the simplified version: Persephone was picking flowers in a meadow and the ground opened up. Hades, the Lord of the Underworld, grabbed her and pulled her down to the Underworld with him. Hades had been watching Persephone for some time and thought she was perfect for his Queen. Demeter went into a great depression. Her daughter was missing. All the crops for the mortals were dead. (this is also the story of the seasons... [winter now]) Demeter pleaded for Zeus to bring her back. But in the Underworld, Persephone was at a feast. She knew if she ate ANYTHING, she would be trapped there forever. So when Hades offered her a pomegranate, she sucked on the seeds and spat them out. Back on Mt. Olympus, Zeus came up with an idea. He bargained with Hades, and they came up with a plan- Persephone would be with Hades for so many months, then in the spring, she would return and Demeter would grow the crops for the humans.
