You should clip any horse in the winter that is doing enough work to sweat a lot, because with their winter coats they take longer to cool out and get colder with their heavy coats preventing the sweat from evaporating. Clipped horses should always be blanketed at least at night and it is an act of kindness to leave the legs and long whiskers on the chin unclipped.
if the horses feet grow too long they may become lame and be very sore(it is animal cruelty) to not have your horses feet shod if they grow extremly long
You should only give your horse a full clip if it is in high work ( a racehorse, competinga lot or just doing lots of schooling) or if it has Crushing disease were the horse winter fur grows thick and curly. I do not like to full clips as the horse has to be well rugged up and in the stable all the time.
