Typically a lead is attached to a horses Halter, but some people will clip a lead onto a bridle as well.

Attach the martingale to the girth and around the horse's neck, but don't attach it to the noseband. For a standing martingale, the noseband attachment should reach to the horse's throat latch and halfway up the horse's neck. For a running martingale, the rings should almost reach to the horse's withers
A horse may choke if he is wearing a bit, and it is a bad habit for them to think they can eat when you are riding them.
"Headgear"?? What is "headgear"?? Do you mean "bridle"?? The only additional part of a bridle for harness horses are blinkers. They are used primarily to prevent the horse from seeing behind itself and possibly being spooked by the carriage.
Depends which headgear you are talking about. A headcollar is what you use to lead them and turnout etc. A bridle is what you ride with and you can get many different types. A headcollar can also be known as a halter.

When someone lunges a horse they attach a long rope or line and get the horse to walk/trot/canter around them in a circle.
A bitless bridle is a term that describes a wide variety of headgear for horses that controls the horses without placing a bit in the horse's mouth. A bitless bridle allows the rider to steer the horse more smoothly and reduces pain for the horse.

Because the bit(metal thing in the horses mouth) makes it difficult for the horse to chew/swallow and makes it very likely to choke.
a head collar would be best for your horse as i have one. you will also need to know how to put it on.........
